Nothing says "I'm Sorry" like flowers.

So these are for you...

... to make up for my lack of attention lately. I've been a very bad blogger, I know. Mind you, Blogger hasn't exactly been helpful this week. Leaving comments has proved amazingly difficult this week. Anyway, enough excuses. You got the flowers, let's leave it at that ;-)

FYI, I know them as Inca Lilies and they're probably my 2nd-favourite flower, right after the Frangipani, which has to win not only on beauty but also on scent. Inca Lilies don't have a scent... but they do last a really long time in a vase of water.
Sheesh, after a week of silence I'm just rambling along, aren't I?!

But I was thinking of you guys, I swear. In fact, I took this photo on Thursday morning before work with the specific intention of posting it on my blog.

We had a whole week of beautiful weather here. Today is a bit breezy again, with the odd rainshower, but it's still warm. [Not as warm as in South Africa, apparently, where it is the middle of winter, but it's all relative.]
On Thursday when I got up it was so perfectly still outside the water was like a mirror - I just had to take a photo for you all to try and share the moment. It was around 6:45am - long before most people start moving around here - and I opened the patio door to a warm, sunny, tranquil world, where the only sounds were the meeuwing of seagulls and the faint buzz that accompanies summer. Try having your first sip of coffee of the day in that - aah, one of those perfect moments in life.

Hm, maybe it's a good thing we're moving soon - you must be sick of seeing photos of the same scene over and over again. I can't help it - it's just so pretty here! I'm really going to miss waking up to the view over the Marina.
Earlier I was sitting outside having a peaceful moment - a rare occasion when I just sat and did nothing for the hell of it - and as I mentioned, it was quite breezy today. Even with the sound of the wind whistling like a ghost through the fence and causing those long blade-like leaves on the tree outside to slap against each other and the lanyards to do their mad tinkling dance against the masts on the yachts, it was peaceful. Perhaps it was the smell of the sea carried along that made it so - I always feel as if my soul is being refilled when I can smell the ocean.

Does anyone know what I mean? Let me know in the comments what fills your soul... or alternatively if you think I've completely lost the plot and you don't know what the hell I'm talking about ;-)

I grew up in an essentially landlocked state, so seeing the ocean still amazes me. I'm sort of easy on the soul-filling stuff - I get so much joy out of simple things...splashing in puddles, the light on an autumn morning, walking in the woods.

Friday night, Peter and I got ice creams at Teddy's and then walked out to the end of Dun Laoghaire pier. We sat down at the end and were just hanging out. Even though it was 10 pm, it was still dusk and the sky was pink and orange in the west. Then I saw him - first a little seal nose, then a head as he had a look around, finally the rest of his body as he floated to the surface. I was so excited, I couldn't say anything - I was just pointing like a fool.

Moments like that - when everything is perfect and then one of your favourite things comes along. It just doesn't get much better than that.

PS - I know what you mean about blogger. Unexpected maintence, migrating databases. Don't these people know we depend on them? :)

I know what you mean by those soul refilling moments. Oddly, thunderstorms have that effect on me. I love them. It's like they somehow recharge my battery.

As usual, the photos are beautiful, Terri. :)

I never tire of seeing photos of the water. Although I was on a lake, it still has the same effect on me. And by the way, blogger is still being a bit of a putz today... won't even let me finish putting pics in my own post! (Thanks for the flowers!)

The heel of my shoe is cracked, so on wet days like today, puddle water fills my sole.

-Ann : That must've been amazing. These late-night sunset skies are quite beautiful, aren't they?!

Angel : LOL! I'm with you girlie :)

Lori : Which just goes to show... we should be beach bums.

Jeff : Ooh, I forgot about the thunderstorms! We don't get them in Ireland but yes, I know what you mean. The electric storms in SA used to give me a huge buzz & make me go just a touch moggy.

Livewire : 'Putz'. Yes. Good word. I could think of a few others but Putz will do for now.

Kyknoord : Y'know, you'd get on really well with my mother. You could see who'd out-corny each other (geddit? Corny - corn - sole - foot).
OK I'm more of a connect-the-dots sort. Just call me Dotty.

Oh I know what you mean Terri. And even though I do not live near the sea - a beautiful sunrise or sunset is what fills my soul.

I can't think of anything right now that particularly lifts my soul but I do know that one of the happiest, most exquisite experiences is walking outside on a warm early Spring's evening when the air is heavy with the scent of jasmine. The smell of the sea can do much the same thing.

Beautiful photos Terri! When I get to the beach it fills my soul. standing there in the sand, feeling the wind on my face and looking over the Gulf of Mexico.
I also like watching the colors in the clouds when the sun goes down at night. I stand there on the deck and look at the river watch the clouds listening to birds. aaawww fills me right up. for a few brief moments all is right.

Aw, Terri, flowers... you shouldn't have, really. I'll feel guilty that I don't give you any now.

Children laughing can have that soul-refilling effect on me. Or really really good dark chocolate. It's a tough choice...

Spookie - Sunrises & sunsets are hard to beat.

Nomad - Amazing how a smell can change a moment (using the taking-off-the-shoes in-the-middle-of-a-romantic-moment when-you-have-smelly-feet situation isn't really an appropriate example here, is it?)

Beads - Yep, that's exactly what I'm talking about :)

Anne - Children or chocolate? Interesting choice...

Jason - Ooh, this IS getting good - I like that one too. We went on a 2-day hike years ago through the Tsitsikama Forest on the south coast of SA and the moment I remember most was when we stopped for a rest at a shallow river, with crystal clear water trickling over smooth moss-covered stones, and dappled sunlight illuminating the trees and ferns around us, birds singing... but everything slightly muted by the surrounding forest.
Wow, thanks for reminding me.

Hi Beads!!! I know, I've been very quiet. I blame it all on Eve - if she hadn't eaten that darn apple we would never have left Paradise and I wouldn't have to work all day instead of Blog!

Ben - Fussy, yep, that's another word for it.
