there's no avoiding it now

I've ignored it as long as I could but it's December now and the Christmas season is upon us whether we like it or not. My favourite pastime - shopping, in case you haven't been paying attention - is now simply an irritation until January.*

Even the simplest errand, like going to buy a couple of groceries, becomes a nightmare of screeching children, manic mothers and frightened fathers all determined to get their goodies before someone else does. We can't have little Timmy going without the latest action figure now, can we?! I swear these people would happily step on each others' heads in the fight to get there first.

Of course, in an attempt to fool everyone into believing it's the Happy season, the malls are populated with carrollers singing Joy to the World and whatnot...

I think I may get to a point where I enjoy Christmas. I'm almost sure I did last year - I guess I could go check my archives to see what my stance was a year ago. But this past weekend the only thing that made me not want to hurt people was when I caught someone in a Santa outfit... worn over a Grinch outfit.

Now that I could identify with.

And that's all I have to say on the subject. For now, anyway. If my family is lucky then this little outburst will have gotten all the bad stuff out of my system and I'll soon be rushing around like a madwoman decorating the tree and doing whatever I can to bring Christmas to the household.**

Of course it's possible they may then wish I were feeling as I do now instead. Apparently there is a limit to how many times teenagers can listen to the same Christmas CD in a month without losing their sense of humour.

* Can you blame me for being upset?
** I should probably mention here that I did buy a string of icicle lights to hang by our front door on Saturday when I went out to get milk.

Hi Terri

My sentiments exactly.

I managed to get all my Xmas shopping out of the way early, and the last minute gifts are being bought online.

In a last ditch attempt to avoid traffic & shopping malls, we are spending the week before Xmas on a beach in Mauritius - Can't wait.

Merry Xmas to you & Dave.

(Don't let the shopping get you down)

That was me in the Grinch outfit. ;) I resent that I have to sit in traffic that is backed up for a mile (km+ in your case?) and be late because of mall traffic. I mean please, I can be late all by myself!

(Ok, I tried to log in here like 7 times. Just what username and password are we to be using?! It appears to be none that I'm familiar with...)

LiVEwiRe - can't even post under 'Other'!

A couple of days ago, I sent out copies of my divorce order and latest bank statement. No-one's expecting a gift from me this year.

I am trying to keep my spirits up.
Sending you lots of cheer and remember Rudolph is a bad boy ;)

Yep, Christmas is an unstobbable force alright. Just try and go outside your door without being bombarded by ringing bells and sprigs of mistletoe and lords a' leaping.

I am with you on the shopping malls. I do not know where people get all the money from and why they are so eager to spend it.
I am off to the coast this holiday. A perfect way to escape the family drama.

Spookie - I'm hoping mine will appear when the tree goes up too. It may just have been packed away along with the decorations.

Beads - Rudolph IS a bad boy hehe, and diamonds are a girl's best friend :-)

Ben - Yeah, those leapin' lords are a menace this time of year.

Chitty - {sigh} what I wouldn't give to spend Christmas in the sun at the coast again...

ho-hum... damien and i both seem to be in the doldrums this year. for the first time since we moved out of the house, there are no christmas decorations up in our home, where our place is usually festooned by december 1st!

Come, child. Join the dark forces that loathe Christmas. And fear not, we look after our own.

Angel - Ah y'see the problem is Christmas becomes uncool for teenagers at a certain age and then it falls to us, the mothers (or stepmothers in my case) to make sure Christmas enjoyed. There will be joy in the house, or else..!!!

Jason - Are we ever ready for anything???

Anne - You make it sound so tempting and comforting... Do we get chocolate too?
