well colour me surprised

Following on last week's revalation that I am rapidly approaching middle age* I decided yesterday that it was time (again) to disguise the most obvious symptom of this condition.

I found it mildly disconcerting when some of my hair colouring creme splashed onto the bathroom wall and promptly stripped the paint right down to brick. Well okay, it's not really brick but I can't bring myself to acknowledge that we are separated from our neighbours by little more than glorified cardboard.
That aside, I'm thinking that hair must be pretty robust stuff if it willingly copes with chemicals that literally strip paint off walls... and even comes out shiny and bouncy on the other side!

And in case you were wondering the answer is Yes; blondes do have more fun.**
~

* See how I've cleverly convinced myself that I'm not actually there yet?
** More fun than grey-haired middle-aged women, at least, I'm sure.

is your wall nice and shiny and bouncy, too?

i had my hair highlighted a while back, and my mother keeps telling me how unnatural it looks.

hmph. aren't moms supposed to be supportive??

Well you've just stumbled upon the origin of the blonde jokes - protect your brain! ;)

That's pretty scary about the creme. But then again, it might come in handy with some projects around the house.

UGH!! I have been going grey since I was 23. I am now 32 and I am completely grey. It horrifies me everytime I see it. I hate it and I will colour mine until I am 70 - at least!!

I've been fighting the growth of and spreading of grey hairs since my early 20's as well. They started coming after I got married so I blame them on my husband ;-) My hair is dark so I've left splatters of dark brown hair colour in many bathrooms over the years, although mine has never stripped the paint off the walls. That's some pretty powerful hair dye you're using, Terri!

Don't worry cuz. I, too, suffer from the Executive Blonde streak!

Isn't amazing how they build houses out of plasterboard!?!? The same over here too! And as for the weather: Melbourne winter = London winter - grey skies! Cold & wet... just like George actually!

Laurie - After being closed in there for a few minutes with nothing but the fumes emanating from hair colour yes, the walls were bouncy and shiny.... and perhaps what your mom is trying to say is you should try a different shade of purple in your hair..? LOL!

Anne - Blonde jokes? There are jokes about blondes?

Jason - Well it would... except Hubby is now terrified to go near the stuff ;-)

Brigitte - You go girl! Defy Mother Nature! What does that b*tch know anyway?!

Angelina - I've had a few grey hairs for a good few years already but they used to blend in with the blonde so they weren't quite so noticeable. Not so much any more, I'm afraid.

Del - Hmf, my 'beef' is that on men it looks distinguished and sometimes even downright sexy (George Clooney, anyone?) while it just makes women look old.
Your weather sounds pleasant... (?!)

Angel - For some reason I'm thinking you'd probably suit grey streaks. Cruella DeVille style, if you need a visual - I'm sure it would suit the purple feather boa beautifully!

I must admit that I am pretty lucky to still have an abundance of brown hair. If I want to see any grey, I really have to go searching for it. Being 40, I would say that I don't have any reason to complain yet. I have only put dye on my hair for visual effect... call me lucky....
