catastrophic hardware failure

Not the words any I.T. person wants to hear first thing in the morning. It's been a helluva day. But it's not over yet, and because of it I'll be missing the last of this semester's Salsa classes. Bah-bloody-humbug. Especially when I went shopping this weekend and bought the cutest skirt that would be perfect for dancing in, too.

For the last few days I've felt like doing exactly what said hardware did last night - in layman's terms, "ka-plfft". I, too, feel like simply shutting down. Perhaps if I rebooted I'd come back all re-synced, with all my services in perfect running order. Or perhaps, as more often happens, I would simply fail to restart without any good reason. I fear, right now, it might be the latter.

Gosh, aren't I just a little ray of sunshine today?!
Hm... sunshine... not too much of that around here these days. I got caught in a hail/snow/sleet/rain storm on Sunday that skrikked* for nothing. Our Daffodils were showing serious regret at ever having popped their heads out so early in the year. Two of them hanged themselves on the thorny stem of their neighbouring rose bush; can't say I blame them.
But before you all go demanding photographs I gotta tellya: the snow in this place doesn't settle. It falls, it melts. All we end up with is cold wetness - not the makings of picturesque postcard-scene photographs.

So how's the weather where you are?

* Literal translation from Afrikaans: got a fright. It loses something in translation.

I just keep envisioning those poor lil' daffodils.

It's bloody cold! First day of spring, my foot...
Here's to hoping that the work eases up, the weather gets better and your mood lifts.

It's rather ironic that "hardware" isn't usually very hard wearing.

Ben O - I wish I'd taken a photo to show you guys!

Anne - All is not lost! I got a seat on the train this morning. I had to fight for it, but I won.
[ Don't worry it was a "who looks the scariest" sort of standoff, not a fist fight ;) ]

Kyknoord - Indeed. Much like irony has nothing to do with non-creased clothing. Who invented this language anyway?!

Need you even ask about the weather. It's sleeting/raining/snowing as we speak... :-(

Bring back last week's sunshine!

We're having our first warm up after a round of freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Maybe spring will finally stick.

Sorry about the computer problems! If you need data off a dead drive, there are programs to get at it, but it's not easy and you'll need a working hard drive in its place first. If you got the puppy to start up again, back up now!!

Del - I shall have a word with the Weather Gods and see what I can do.

Jason - hehe, fortunately (?!) the hardware failure was on a server at work, not on my own machine, so although the fallout affected me it wasn't personal - just meant I was mega-busy getting stuff working again for the people it affected directly :)

A huge mega dose of my warm spring sunshine is on it's way to you!! It shall arrive ASAP if it does not let me know I might have to make a virginial sacrafice of some kind. :)

Them poor Dafs!! Glad you did not show a picture of them. I don't think I could bear to see them that away.

Happy Friday Babe!!
