sizzling summer weekend

Temperatures in Ireland were high enough to merit a 5-minute slot item on the 7pm Sky News programme this evening. That's right, Summer is here, and the mercury hit a whopping 23 degrees (73 Fahrenheit)!!! It was forecast as being a "scorcher".

Um, yeah, moving swiftly along...

Today was a Bank Holiday, making it a 3-day weekend. For once, the weather did indeed play along. I may mock the Irish idea of 'hot' days, but I gotta tellya, as miserable as this place can be in bad weather (which occurs a lot more than what we South Africans are accustomed to), on a good day Ireland is hard to beat. This is what we we awoke to on Saturday morning:

It really was a lovely day.
In fact, I had an exceptionally good weekend. On Friday evening our good friends (also South Africans) drove up from where they're now living in Cork, and they stayed the weekend, leaving after lunch today. She and I have been friends since we were about 17. He and my hubby have been friends even longer - they were at school together. I am pleased to say we introduced the two of them and they're now happily married. Just call me cupid ;)

On Saturday The Men went fishing. The only thing they caught was a Latvian (yes, someone from Latvia - something to do with crossed fishing lines) but the important thing was they had fun doing boy stuff.
The girls did the girly thing - I took her up the road to see our new house (won't be long now!) and then we went shopping. And boy, did we shop! Young Cinderella was with us and she was exhausted by the time we got home.
Tsk tsk, the girl has no stamina ;)
The reason she came along was to find her something to wear to a party on Saturday night. It was a fancy dress. She made me promise not to put pictures of her dressed up on my blog, so sorry, you'll have to make do with my description. She dressed as Barbie. This involved a LOT of glittery pink makeup, a pink hairband with hearts on it, a pink feather boa, a pink handbag and a 2-tone pink striped top. Oh, and spray-on pink stripes in her pig-tails. You'd have to know her to realise this is not really her regular look - she's quite happy in jeans and neutral-toned tops, haha! Did I mention she's almost 16, not 6?!

The guys did some more fishing on Sunday. The girls did some more shopping. This time it was homeware - I bought a set of saucepans for the new house, and some picture frames that will match perfectly with the side tables in the lounge.

So although we didn't wander too far from home, we had a really wonderful time. The shopping was great and the conversation was wonderful. I really enjoy those long chats with my friend!
The champagne wasn't bad, either ;)

This morning our little village was shrouded in mist. Apparently the rest of the city had wonderful sunshine but it remained chilly here with the wind coming off the sea, eventually blowing the mist away well after midday.

So, now you know why I've been so quiet (if you were wondering). And now it's almost time for the season finale of Smallville, so I'm outta here for now. I'll be catching up on all your blogs during the week. I hope my boss has a lot of meetings, cos I sure have a lot of catching up to do, lol!

PS Blogger won't let me upload any more photos tonight but I took quite a few this weekend so I'll put 'em up on Flickr if you're interested.

Jaysus Terri, this is great weather. What more could you want, any hotter and we'd all be whining that it's too hot :)

Glad you didn't melt in those blisteringly high temperatures.

Have you by any chance been talking to some of my friends? They're trying to convince me to move to Ireland, and you're doing a good job...

My most recent trip to Ireland (August 2004) for an interview was over a weekend of 'blisteringly' high temperatures. Mid-twenties, I think it was. Although not that warm by S African standards, I find those temperatures in northern Europe do feel very hot.

Dublin was SO beautiful in all that sunshine! You're right, Ireland is hard to beat when the weather is good.

I noticed that our days of 20 degrees is considered very cold in some circles!!! Our cold is not so bad anymore. Our days are at 15, 16 and 17 degrees, but the worst of the chill is out of them. Nights are cold though. I took a look at your Flicker pic - fabulous! Makes me want to be there instead..

I am glad to see that I am not the only one who has been otherwise occupied and not able to blog to my hearts content anymore. Boo hoo, I miss you guys!!!

Beads - Grr, my boss was here all day yesterday. Good news (for me anyway) is he's out sick today so it looks like I'll finally get a chance 2 catch up, yay!

Fence - Not complaining at all. This is just perfect for me... and now that you mention it I heard a couple of whinges last week already and it was only around 17 then!

Jeff - I posted some photos to Flickr - knock yourself out :)

Kyknoord - hehehe, you think that's funny... you should see all the advertising they do here warning people about the dangers of the sun, and swimming, and bbq's, and and and... You have no idea!

Anne - Well I would never discourage you. Let me say this, though: I'd swap places with you in Paris any day! This place may be amazing when the sun shines, but it truly doesn't happen very often.

Nomad - I think it has to do with the humidity, although anyone who's ever been to Durban in the summer might disagree.

Delboy - OMG what was I thinking??!!! Nope, no more boxes (yet). But, don't be fooled - I didn't give you guys a full list of what I did buy. Did I mention the pretty shoes I got? ;)

Buddess - I guess the 'cold' is all relative, eh?! Glad u like the pics!

Spookie - Missed you all too Babes!

Jason - Idyllic is the word. Ooh, and this morning it's already perfect. I stood outside drinking my coffee and not a breath of wind stirred, the water was like glass, the only sound the warmth of the day... It doesn't get much better than that!

Angel - Ha blerrie Ha. Glad u find it amusing ;( And the shopping was wonderful. I'd been 'saving up' for this one ;)
